It was a bit difficult in the recent past track all model names changes to Infiniti, but such is the case in the luxury car market. A year real names are the ultimate fashion statement; the next it is letters and numbers.

Infiniti seems to have taken that into consideration to name his 2016 Infiniti Q70L 3.7 AWD.

In simple terms, Qs followed by a number to indicate the models "size" in the ra nge replace Ms and Gs. Simplicity, they say. This is the New World Order models, according Infiniti and its then president Johan de Nysschen.

Exterior

Infiniti designs all its vehicles with the concept of nature to the forefront. This is not a philosophy of tree-hugging in the true sense of the term, although the natural wood products are typically found throughout the interior. Rather, it is a desire on the part of its designers to allow the wind to carve external body panels and a balance between aerodynamic efficiency and the call of nature.

The 2016 Infiniti Q70L 3.7 AWD is no exception to this rule. Designed specifically for the Chinese market, where the size of your luxury sedan is very important, Q70 L provides an additional 6 inches in total body length. The look is similar to the regular size Q70 sedan, but this Grand Edition has been stretched all around to add valuable street cred in Shanghai.

light bounces off the metal cover and wings Hermosa blue rocket with a burst some luxury sedans can match. I think Infiniti has a way with exterior design unlike any other Japanese manufacturer in this market. In comparison, looking at a Lexus and Acura causes no inspiration.

While I appreciate the new grille design feature d on the current Lexus LS, the rest of the car is visually calm. And although something new soon to be Acura RLX to replace the current, it looks like nothing more than an oversized Honda Accord with refined LED headlights.

love or hate, the Infiniti stands alone.

inside

If the exterior is designed with nature as its theme, the interior is designed with "first driver" a playbook with a clear objective that luxury requires leather, wood and a considerable amount of brushed metal and chrome.

rather than going all-digital with the look and feel of the central gauges, Infiniti will all Nissan and provides easy -to read, timeless design with white on black round speedometer and tachometer. In the center, a rectangular digital display shows outside temperature, fuel range, gear selection and more, but thats it. As someone who spends a lot of time behind the wheel of many luxury sedans, simple is a nice change from many overly complex offers today.

climate-controlled front seats provide excellent support and fit. leather stitching adds to the look and function, and the side bolsters protrude to increase support, but never encroach on the point of discomfort. A steering wheel 4-spoke offers easy access to a multitude of features including the obligatory cruise control and audio system. I like the feel of the steering wheel in my hands. I am less impressed by steering feel, however, as it appears at low speed heavy and too sensitiv e when driving on the highway. The 2016 Infiniti Q70L 3.7 AWD is long to begin with, so I prefer would like the configuration management to take into account and shrink the driving experience to something closer to average height. There is no

satin me tal, chrome and -. In our case - the silver powder optional wood trim white ash combine to provide a pleasant space to spend quality time. The center console flows into its front seat occupants like a cresting wave on the beach; easy to reach and logically designed. For those old enough to remember the hands on a clock, Infiniti continues its tradition of including an analog timer -. With chrome bezel and white face, of course

rear seat space is exceptional and there are so many legs that I find it difficult to reach the back of the front seat. Our tester is equipped with an interior ambient lighting option, which makes getting in and out at night a little more entertaining.

Infotainment

Bose Surround Sound audio provides if the order the Deluxe option with Technology Package on our tester. A total of 16 speakers are strategically placed throughout the interior, many of which are located on the tops of the front seat next to the headrest.

For those not yet ready to fully embrace the only digital world to come, a CD is included. Sound quality is impressive, with crisp highs and lows seemingly bottomless, but I knew better in other luxury sedans, including the above Lexus LS with its 19 -speaker Mark Levinson system.

touch screen navigation features voice recognition and turn-by-turn, more NavTraffic to make your journey a little easier. Birdview and 3D imaging compliments building this system already smooth. Lane Guidance and up to three days weather forecasts are included, as well as the Google calendar and various other features for the first 6 months as part of the entire Infiniti Connection.

Powertrain

If ever there was a gasoline engine that deserves to be in the hall of the powertrain fame, this is it. Based on time-honored 3.7-liter V6 24-valve Nissan, this variation produces 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Mated to an automatic transmission with seven-speed Adaptive Shift Control, all-wheel drive pushes forward with a control commander direction at all times.

player

Power delivery is smooth, although Im a little cooled face the added mass of L. mostly, there are still many torque to accelerate traffic on the road, or carry along my road favorite campaign with just a bit too abandon the posted speed limit. If the extra speed you want, consider moving up to 5.6-liter model. The additional price of just under $ 14,000 is ste ep, but the points of the power curve with a 86 hp and 144 lb-ft of extra torque of

Although I can not be too impressed by steering feel -. Or lack of it - I am pleasantly surprised by the power and the stop command provided by AWD Q70L 3.7. He stops on a dollar, not a penny, but it handles with ease the panic for a sedan of this size. Equipped with alloy wheels of 20 inches, 245 / 40R20 all-season tires, and technology advances in hand, even a surprising snowfall and subsequent unprepared conductors are not enough to disturb the serenity of my drive.

EPA city rate and fuel economy on the road to 18 and 24 mpg. We averaged 20.5 mpg during a week, placing us in the middle of where Infiniti hope we will.

The price of our 2016 Infiniti Q70L 3.7 AWD test vehicle reaches $ 63,550, including a destination charge of $ 05. This puts the Infiniti slightly above comparable 2016 Acura RLX equipment at $ 61,868 (including $ 940 destination). Compare that to a 2016 Lexus LS 460 L at $ 87,380 (including $ 950 destination) and AWD Q70L 3.7 looks like a flight.

To be fair, most direct comparison for the Lexus LS 460 AWD Infiniti Q70L 5.6, but with more power and torque available with Infiniti and a lower price of about $ 10 ,000 compared equipped, Lexus makes clear that they are more interested in taking over its German competitors and not its Asian counterparts. Even with a sleek-looking Genesis G0 lurking in the corner in 2016, Infiniti appears well positioned to maintain its share of very desirable luxury sedan market
