2018 Ram 3500 heavy duty makes 930 lb ft of torque

The 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty pickup has received upgrades that put it at the top of its class when it comes to torque and towing capabilities, the company announced. Ram is also announcing an increase in fifth-wheel towing to a full 30,000 pounds for the 3500 HO diesel, with a factory-engineered fifth-wheel hitch.

At the North American International Auto Show in January 2018, Ram Truck will debut the all-new 1500 for the 2019 model year.

The 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty is offered with a revised 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, packing 385 horsepower and 930lb-ft of torque - up 30lb-ft over the 2017 Ram 3500. Ram claims that the new 3500 Heavy Duty is the pickup with the highest torque rating in the segment and the one which offers the heaviest fifth-wheel towing capacity.

Based on what we know so far, it seems that 2018 model year will bring some improvements for the Ram heavy-duty models. Plus, it is possible that Ram would introduce the new special edition version which would keep buyers focus until the redesign. The company improves their vehicles every year and we already know about some modifications of the 2018 Ram 2500. That is a fact reinforced today with the 2014 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup winning a Vincentric Best Value in Canada award.

Interiors of Ram trucks are well-designed and versatile. Ram has also launched the new Tungsten Edition for its 2018 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups The models feature dark chrome trim on the outside and body color accents for the mirror caps, bumpers, door handles and running boards. The F-350 is designed from fully boxed front rails, heavy gauge C-channel rails, and additional gussets that provide durability in high-stress areas.

Notable additions are a truck segment-first light greystone suede headliner and ultra-premium Natura Plus” frost and indigo-colored premium leather throughout the cabin including the seats, instrument panel, steering wheel, center arm rest and doors. Next to color coded exterior trimmings, Tungsten Chrome accents and Satin-painted Limited wheels, on the inside there are real wood components, white and indigo leather and a suede headliner, which is a first in the truck segment.

The completely redesigned HD lineup should arrive for the 2020 model year, and chances are Ram will give the award-winning F-Series Super Duty a run for its money. The 2016 Jeep® Renegade stood out among the SUV Compact” segment and the 2016 Ram 3500 won in the Heavy Duty Pickup” segment.

The 6.7-liter Cummins diesel-powered Ram 3500 Heavy Duty took top honors for ou tstanding pulling power, braking, fuel economy, comfort and handling under extreme towing conditions. Heavy Duty models with the 6-foot, 4-inch bed get the RamBox storage system, too.

The photos show both 10-lug and 8-lug variants of the 2019 Ram 3500 HD chassis cab, both of which are four-door models. While the Blue Oval introduced a 360-degree camera system, trailer-guiding visualizations and active electronic steering modulation for its heavy duty Super Duty series last year, the GMC just has blind-spot and bed monitoring cameras.

The 2018 RAM 3500 HD comes with 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and four air bags (front and full-length side-curtain).

And just announced, the luxury Limited Tungsten Edition of the 2018 Ram will also include Apple CarPlay. Buyers of the 2018 Ram Limited Tungsten Edition will be treated to a wide range of special equipment, such as air suspension (1500 only), remote starter, backup camera, memory-enabled power adjustable pedals, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and the RamBox system (only in the Heavy Duty trims with 6-ft 4-in beds).

Of course, there are always additional options that many choose to add like SiriusXM, a UConnect system with bluetooth technology, GPS navigation, HD radio and Alpine speakers with a subwoofer.

Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks offer more innovative features than the competitors trucks, including a five-link coil suspension with optional air suspension on Ram 2500 and a supplemental air bag suspension option on Ram 3500.

The closest competitor for the Ram 3500 in the world of heavy duty pickups is the Ford F350, which when properly equipped can pull 32,000lbs with the PowerStroke Diesel packing 925lb-ft of torque.

This engine puts out 385 horsepower with a massive 900 pound-feet of torque and all of that power allows the Ram 3500 Dually to land best-in-class towing capability, with an available towing ca pacity of an astounding 31,210 pounds, and a max payload of 6,720 pounds. Ram says working closely with Cummins, the 2018 diesel improvements include higher boost limits through a variable geometry turbo and flow rate increases through the fuel delivery system enabling the 6.7-liter I-6 to produce an additional 30 lb.-ft.

Base Ram 2500 models are about utility firstâ€"comfort takes a back seat, if there is one. Every Ram 2500 comes with a standard complement of airbags and stability control systems. On top of the 64” and 8 bed lengths, Ram also has a RamBox Cargo management system available. The RamBoxes are two lockable storage compartments on both sides of the truck bed, giving users even more storage options.

The Tungsten trim level is available in the third quarter of 2017 on the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 with single- and dual-rear-wheels; four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive; Crew Cab and Mega Cab and both short- and long-wheelbase models.

Despite all the many ways in which the Ram 3500 dominates the competition, it is still the more budget-friendly truck available. According to the various sources, the 2018 Ram 2500 is supposed to come to the market by the end of 2017.

Next up is the RAM 3500 SLT ($36,000) which brings in towel upholstery, power accessories, heated mirrors, chrome trim and satellite radio. The starting MSRP for the upgrade is $1,395, and its also available as an upfit package for the Ram 3500.
